Charles MacLean is Master of the brews at MacLean’s, the Brewmaster of Brewmaster. I was a bit leery before sampling this beer because I am not a huge fan of English browns and MacLean’s touts this brew as an English style brown ale. So a tasting was in order to see if this dog could hunt.*
Nice brown pour with a tinge of red coming through it in the light. The glass maintained a thin white head but not for long. Nice earthy malty aroma with some chocolate notes. Interesting, I took the aroma to be a good sign. Nice full flavour, not hoppy. A touch of bitter in the aftertaste which added to the flavour. Malty with minimal hops, a touch of chocolate, a touch of bitter. Great flavour and well balanced. It turns out my concerns were unwarranted. Very good beer.
