New Year’s Eve, I am at the cottage and it is time to toast the new year. No champagne in the beer fridge but there is a frosty Common Loon ready and waiting. Golden, a little bubbly which seemed fitting. A nice fresh aroma one would expect from an APA.
First swig the bitters hit you right away. Refreshing maybe, bitter definitely. Not smooth or crushable like you would expect from an American Pale Ale. Bitter pretty much covers it. First quaff to the dregs, bitter.
Not too bitter to drink mind you, just bitter enough not to want another. A bitter toast to a difficult year, perhaps this was the right beer to toast 2021?
Cheers, happy new year.
