Red Bull Beer Company

7.1% Alcohol

It was one of those days, so it called for one of those beers.  A strong beer that is.

The can caught my eye. It seems their only claim to fame is that they are strong beer, no comments on taste, pour, hops, just 7.1% in the largest font on the can. A beer with a single purpose, to make an impact via ABV.

Nice golden pour with a reasonable head on its shoulders.  Aroma was a faint smell of beer coupled with boozy overtones. In other words smells strong. My first swig didn’t give me wings but it did give me pause. Yes, their singular focus is on a strong lager. Very smooth with no carbonation at all, I think the booze consumed the bubbles. Smooth as slick. ‎No fizz, no zip, just a beery boozy smooth.

I think they focused on the strong and not on the flavour. Not that there isn’t flavour there, but it is in the background to the alcohol. In a movie the flavour would be part of the supporting cast, but not the antagonist to the hero, maybe more like an extra. The 7.1% is Tom Cruise, the flavour is the director’s nephew. You get the idea.

*Editor’s Comment: Red Bull is owned by Sleemans who are owned by Sapporo. A minnow swallowed by a trout, who despite swallowing a few minnows never got big enough to save himself from being swallowed by a muskie. The sad story of the major Canadian breweries and foreign acquisition.
