A Lil’ IPA? A lil’ lighter, a lil’ crisper, a lil’ short on letters maybe? And what the hell kind of name is Gnarnia? Never heard of such a thing. And after conserving letters on lil’ now with a silent G they waste one on Gnarnia? I had to look it up. A slang expression by some snowboarding potheads that means “A magical sought after place where the landscape is so perfect that it is surreal”. Apparently there is a Gnarnia mountain biking trail near Bracebridge which I would guess Sawdust City is referring to. The trail is rated double black diamond, which means if you aren’t a real good mountain biker you are going to end up on your ass or worse, wrapped around your crossbar, Ouch! Not sure if that is my idea of a surreal and sought after place, but this beer is.
Nice bright golden pour and a snappy, zesty bouquet. Tastes great. Smooth drinking yet with the zing you want from an IPA. I guess that is the whole concept behind a sessionable IPA (Lil’ IPA), some snap to it but at the same time easy drinking, this beer fits that bill. Very enjoyable. Hoppy, juicy, but not bitter, in other words refreshing, and easy going down. I like it.
