Müncher Gold Blonde Lager

Hacker Pschorr Bräu

5.5% Alcohol

Yes, this is a German beer. They claim to have been brewing beer since 1417 (the year not the time) and perhaps this Munich Lager was brewed in some shape or form even before that “by the monks” which is a rough translation of what the name Munich was derived from.  If you win at Jeopardy with this information it only seems fitting that you split your winnings with yours truly.

This beer is designated as a “Protected Geographical Indications”. What the hell does that mean? Well according to Google this beer is “ identified as originating in a particular area, and the product’s given quality, reputation or other characteristic must be attributable to this area and at least one of the production steps must take place in the defined area.” What does all that mean? Well I guess it means that Munich Lager must be brewed in Munich, which it is.

Now you are prepared for Jeopardy categories “History of Germany”, “City Name Origins” and “Geographical Trademarks”. Half your winnings to me, let your conscience be your guide.

This lager pours a bright gold colour, almost glowing. Front and center flavorful. In fact the first quaff was a bit of a surprise, the malted barley took the lead, and it was a bit grainy. But by second and subsequent swigs it mellowed a bit and turned into a flavorful but at the same time easy drinking lager. Quite enjoyable. I guess if you have been at it for over 600 years you better be good at it, and they are. Kudos to the beer brewing monks of Hacker Pschorr Bräu. Great läger.
