I remember when Rush put out their first album in 74. “In the Mood” was on the radio, a pretty predictable rock song but with a catchy riff. We went to see them in concert in 75. Smoky stadium, terrible acoustics. The band sucked. Their equipment echoed and reverberated off of every steel girder and concrete wall in the place. “In the Mood” was the only song that you could barely recognize. But most of the whacked out weed eaters in the audience didn’t care. 30 albums and 40 million albums sold later Henderson’s has immortalized them on this golden ale with a graphic from their 4th album, 2112, released in 76.

Henderson says that “Books are for tourists. Beer is for geniuses.” I wonder if they read that in a book somewhere? I know when I am on vacation I drink beer, so I think beer is for tourists too. And I know some people who drink beer who are definitely not geniuses.* Lesson learned, just because it is printed on a beer can doesn’t make it true. They have the correct spelling for “geniuses” so that’s a good sign.

Is this beer worthy of Rush? Is Rush worthy of this beer? It certainly poured golden, with a thin white head. Good flavour from start to finish. A bit of bitter, gone by the third swig (the bitter, not the beer). I wouldn’t call it easy drinking or smooth but a good solid ale, strong flavour but no reverb or echo, it didn’t overpower the glass or the drinker. Good Canadian band. Good Canadian beer. This is no Fly by Night brew, but a good Canadian beer for the Working Man when he is In the Mood.
