A DAB in the Dark

Dortmunder Dark

Dortmunder Actien – Brauerei GMBH

4.8% Alcohol

Cheering on my beloved buds tonight with a brewed in Germany Dortmunder Dark. And in the immortal words of Arte Johnson’s German character on Laugh-In*, this beer is  “veeery interesting”.

Dab’s dark lager pours very dark with a nice whitish tan head. Light aroma, a bit of the dark in there but light. Dark but light? Just one of the contrary concepts in this tasting. An easy drinking style lager, large swigs are not only possible but this brew seems to encourage them! A malt and slightly bitter finish stronger than a typical lager. A smooth lager mouthfeel and body, but with a fuller flavour on the finish. A lager body with a porter finish.

Just like my Leafs tonight, this beer has a good game and a strong finish. Another interesting and enjoyable beer from the “little DAB’ll do ya”** people.

*Editor’s Comment: Laugh-In was a late 60’s early 70’s comedy show that introduced us to such future stars as Goldie Hwan, Flip Wilson and Lily Tomlin. The 1977 revival series had new cast members including Robin Williams.

**Editor’s Comment: Brylcreem byline reference which came up in the DAB Dortmunder Export review.
