Goose Island IPA

Goose Island Beer Co.

5.9% Alcohol

At the casino in town which is the local hangout for cranky old men and women intent on losing their kid’s inheritance.  I actually think there was a counter there for cashing RRSPs. To give you an idea how old the crowd was I  felt young there.

So I am sampling a Goose Island IPA on draught. Nice yellow golden pour with a goose down white head.  Hoppy, I didn’t notice any fruit or pine just fresh hoppiness. Very much a traditional IPA, refreshing body with a hoppy and middling bitter finish. The bitter was fine, not too much. A good overall basic big brewer IPA. It makes you wonder what this beer was like when Goose Island actually brewed it.*

The blackjack paid for drinks, the slots paid for dinner, **and the Goose was a safe bet.

*Editor's Comment: Originating out of Chicago in 1998 and named after an island near the windy city, Goose Island Beer Company was bought in 2011 by Anheuser-Busch. When the deal was done it was the largest craft brewer buyout by a major at the time ($39 Million) and started the craft brewer buyout trend. It also raised the question which is still asked today; were these really craft brews now that AB or other majors were brewing them.

**Editor's Comment: To be clear, this website or review is not meant to be an endorsement of gambling. Although this reviewer is indicating that he was to the good that evening, he failed to note that this was the exception not the rule, and that he usually wins more (aka loses less) playing pinball than slots.
