Hard to know what to expect from a beer named Loch Ness Lager … well, that is except for the Lager part. There is some mystery here as this lager has some definitely smokey overtones. Tastes like a dark beer, but pours with an amber/red tone and finishes with a dry hopiness. Looks great with a nice head and some hops in the aroma.
The picture on the can shows a guy fishing – with a castle in the background (signifying Loch Ness no doubt), but I need to check with my buddy RS who’s into fishing to figure out why the fishing dude needs an Axe in the boat with him. Maybe it’s in case he reels in old Nessy and has to defend himself? Anybody else take an axe fishing with them?
This lager packs a lot of flavour. At 25 IBU, there is some bitterness that is noticeable mostly at the end. But the dominant flavour is a malty, smokey taste that lets you know you are drinking something different. I like my flavour and I really liked this beer.
