Coast to Coast

Cameron's Brewing

5.2% Alcohol

The Stanley Cup playoffs, first game. Mid June. Maybe hockey should be a sport at the summer Olympics now? “Hockey Night in Canada”. Or perhaps a more accurate name would be “Hockey Early Evening MST (So As to Attract the Largest TV Audience Who Reside is Eastern Time Zones) in North Western USA.”

I had a fair selection of brews to choose from but I picked Coast to Coast because it reminded me of Bobby Orr starting behind his own net and revving it up and skating past the whole other team to take the puck coast to coast to score. Of course, that’s not what Cameron’s is talking about here. The can says that this lager “is a perfect travelling companion for that road trip across the country.” They even have a RV on the can driving past moose and lobster and bison and beaver and even a Sasquatch (Big Foot) and so on and so forth. I know, too late to make a long story short. What about the beer.

As per the COMDB Guide to Beer Tasting, a poor pourer pours a poor pour. However in my defense this brew had a life of its own and was over the top (literally and figuratively) when it all came to a head. It looked like a Cameron’s Coast to Coast ice cream cone. The foam was as firm as…. well let’s just say it was pretty firm. I waited in anticipation for things to settle. I ask you, is it wrong to want to drink your beer shortly after it is poured? It was a bit hazy under the great white north portion of my Coast to Coast.

I couldn’t get an aroma from the foam fest, but the can had a fresh hoppy aroma. Unfortunately when I finally had a chance to take a swig the carbonation was still the main attraction, overpowering the malt and hops and fruit which are all in there somewhere. A bit of a bitter finish to boot. The fizz faded finally (half way through my brew) to give way to a good fruit and hop combo.  Crisp and hoppy with a light tropical fruit salad happening and a malt background. Certainly more complex than a typical lager, much more like a NEIPA. A crisp slightly bitter finish.

Good beer after the dust, and the foam fest, settled. Best to plan for 40 minute decant for this beer to achieve best results.

*Editor's Comment: This review is over the top. Perhaps we need to have a Coles Notes version of these reviews for people with things to do.
