Having not been to Benihanas recently my Japanese was a little rusty, so I couldn’t recall what Jutsu meant and had to look it up. According to the Wiktionary it is “a bound morpheme of the Sino-Japanese lexical stratum of the Japanese language.” What the hell does that mean? Upon further investigation apparently what Jutsu means is “technique, method, spell, skill or trick” Why didn’t they just say that in the first place?

A spell, skill or trick sounds like we are into the realm of Harry Potter and Penn and Teller. So is this brew Ninja magic? Pour, quaff and do tell.

Pale ale, I think not! This brew pours a golden yellow crazy hazy. Thick as a brick.* Definitely one of the COMDB Top 5 haziest brews. Extra pulp grapefruit juice hazy with a nice slim froth floating on top. A fresh aroma with some fruit.  A taste of mild grapefruit, minimal hops but a bit of zing and a touch of bitter on the first swig. A mild flavour with a finish that alternated between hops or boozy but always understated, well balanced. Occasionally tart like grapefruit. Not sure about the magic but it is a nice refreshing pale ale.

*Editor’s Comment: Once again, an improperly used simile. The expression “Thick as a brick” means very stupid, slow to learn or understand. An example of the proper use of this simile is "The beer reviewer is thick as a brick." It is also the name of the 1972 album by the British rock band Jethro Tull, which contains a continuous piece of music, split over two sides of the record, and is a parody of the concept album genre.
