Hitting the Refresh Button?

Traditional Irish Red Beer

Brock St. Brewing Co.

Just how refreshing is Brock Street? Some say it is the most refreshing street in Canada, that some being Brock Street Brewery from their downtown Whitby* locale of “Historic Brock Street Est. 1855”. Will this be a refreshing red or a red flag?  They certainly delivered on their promise of refreshing with their Premium Pilsner which hit the refresh button for me.

This Irish Red just so happened to win a gold medal at The Ontario Brewing awards Dark Ale category. Congrats, I’ll drink to that, and either confirm or contest the award.

A dark slightly red tinged pour, clear and dark and clearly dark.  Head missing in action. A fresh malt aroma. This has a nice  clean light to medium malt flavour, it is smooth with a bit of carbonation. No hops, zing or aftertaste, a very refreshing red. There is subtle caramel with the malt, and a clean smooth (not crisp) finish. Delicious and easy drinking. Well done team Brock. Award confirmed, this red is a winner.

*Editor’s Comment: Many Southern Ontario towns and cities have borrowed their names from Britain, which at first glance appears to be the case with Whitby, as there is a Whitby in Yorkshire. But the original name of "Whitby" is Danish, dating from 867 AD when the Danes invaded Britain. It is a contraction of "Whitteby", meaning "White Village". The original reference may have been to the white lighthouse on the pier at Whitby, Yorkshire.
