Starting off our arm chair tour of the East coast with this Island brew and it’s 5 o’clock somewhere. Wait a minute, it’s 5 o’clock here. Beer me. Flying solo on a wing and a prayer and a Gahan 1772 tall ship full of Scottish settlers*. Maybe my ship has come in?
The orange golden amber pour is a bit darker than some IPAs. Looks fruity hazy bubbly. This is definitely an effervescent pour, bubbles galore. Bubbles galore, sounds like a vaudeville act.** The aroma is mild fruit but no hops on the proboscis. First taste is all bubbles and bitters. Where is my fruit? I feel a bout of scurvy coming on. Now the fizz is fading but the bitter is still bitter. Third swig has the bitter settling down now but still a faint fizz finish. Now the bitter is back and it asked me if I missed it, cheeky.
The bitters are not over the top but they will probably put some off. And a fizz finish is not my favourite finale. An OK IPA, but as unbalanced as my check book.
