Nothing to Be Bitter About

Flapdoodle

Sawdust City Brewing

4.4% Alcohol

When you think of English bitter you may picture Harry and Meghan*, but an English Bitter is in fact an English Pale Ale and most aren’t that bitter at all. English bitters may have been the original session ales, easy drinking and light. Maybe you are looking for something a bit better than a basic bitter, perhaps a better bitter, why not the best bitter? A Best Bitter has a bit more bite than a basic bitter but** is still an easy-going pale ale (according to the Editor I have abused the art of alliteration and no more are allowed).

So what is all this folderol and fiddle-dee-dee about Flapdoodle***. Codswallop I say. Enough of this nonsense. We have a brew to review.

This Sawdust City pale ale must have got some of that famous British sunshine (sarcasm alert) and ended up a golden tan approaching amber. With a light not quite cliffs of dover white head. The aroma is mild hops and fruit, no malt in tow. The taste is mild fruit not hoppy at all, with a subdued rather than bitter finish, but slight bitter in the aftertaste, all good.  A bit fizzy on the backend occasionally, it comes and goes. Very easy drinking, it settles into a nice mild fruit sessionable ale, no hops, bitters or sweets.

Nothing to be bitter about here. An easy drinking enjoyable pale ale.

*Editor’s Comment: Harry and Meghan have turned being bitter and self-righteous into a lucrative business. Their Netflix deal is reported to be worth $100M and Harry’s 4 book deal with Penguin Random House is estimated at $40M. Their podcast Spotify deal is said to be $25M. A prince but no pauper. The word flapdoodle comes to mind.

**Editor’s Comment: Enough with the aggravating alliterations already. Damn, now you have me doing it.

***Editor’s Comment: Stop it. Flapdoodle definition: nonsense.
