Just before the onset of Dry February* I decided I needed to sample my final beer from Whiprsnapr Brewing. This one is called Black Sunshine, a bourbon oak black lager . A lot of good words in that beer heading. The folks at Whiprsnapr are quite creative – both their brewmaster and their art work. I can imagine being the artist who is told they need to create a label for a beer called Black Sunshine. My immediate response would include some terms the editor won’t let me put in a beer review. But these guys came up with a pretty good image – so I give credit there.
What is the beer like? It’s a rich and smooth bevy with lots of flavour. I got the woody oak flavour, along with expresso with a rich smokey finish. The label says there is chocolate as well – but I couldn’t taste it. That is likely more a reflection of my tasting ability. I tried two of them just to make sure I couldn’t catch the chocolate and unfortunately, that’s all I had. Overall, this beer is delicious with full flavours delivered in a smooth almost creamy mouth feel. There is enough bitterness to keep it interesting without becoming overwhelming.
If this is black sunshine, then I’m thinking dark matter might be a universal delight?

Dry Feb …. most likely to be followed by Damp March
