Inspired by Jimmy Buffet’s song Magaritaville,* and part of the reason the laidback sandals and sea-shore singer is a billionaire, the Landshark Lager brand is owned by Anheuser -Busch InBev. What began in Jacksonville mainland Florida as an “island beer”, has gone international. Fins up, as they say, although I am only familiar with one of the fins up, that being the big dramatic fin from film and fame that you see coming at you just before you lose a limb.**
Hot day, and a lunchtime Landshark Lager was in order, and therefore ordered. A golden pour, bright but not light, more hale than pale. A thin fins up head of sea spray headed my way, but inducing thirst rather than fear. A nice malt lager aroma. An easy drinking nicely flavoured malt lager with some hops in there too. A refreshing draft with enough substance to thirst quench and go well with a meal too.
Just like Jimmy Buffet isn’t wasting away boiling shrimp and sportin’ a tattoo of unknown origin anymore, this brew is no longer a laid back island craft, but a big business global brew. Although I am partial to craft beers, this Landshark was a decent quaff and hit the spot as a warm day sunny mainland on the pub patio pint .
