I thought this brew (and corresponding brew pic*) might be a good segue into a shout out to my old buddy Crazy George who goes down to Burning Man each year in Nevada.** What started out as a bon fire vigil on Baker Beach has become a 70,000 strange and strong event of creativity and burning. If you don’t keep up on the Burning Man news, it looks like this year they are all stuck in a Woodstock like mud fest which is what one inch of rain will do in a desert.
This brew is suggesting something a bit more subdued than a Nevada desert cultural event. How about a bon fire with some cool friends and some chilled brews, or vice versa. Either way it sounds like fun until smoke gets in your eyes *** or the mosquitos find you.
As for this Perth Brewery offering, it pours as black as the burning man post burning. A headless pint with a porter like aroma but a bit lighter. A great taste of smooth roasted malt with a light mouthfeel and a touch of sweet on the finish. First swig was a bit fizzy and had a slight bitter aftertaste. The fizz faded and the aftertaste was an afterthought but the discrete sweet remained. An easy drinking light full flavoured slightly sweet finishing dark lager. A big swig dark lager? Yes it is, thank you very much. Great beer.
No marshmallows required with this bon fire brew but I would like s’more.
