Don’t Forget the Accent

Anemone? Isn’t that the plant I can never pronounce properly? Suck it up, buttercup. But since this brew is from the belle province I thought that the COMDB translation department could shed some light on the situation. The first thing they pointed out was my lack of an accent. I told them “of course I have no accent, I’m Canadian” which brought some derisive snickers from the overseas contingent. “No the accent aigu over the e.”  Of course! The math teacher’s mantra is “remember to show your work” and the French teacher’s refrain is “don’t forget the accent.” Ok, what does Anémone* translated into English mean? Turns out it’s anemone. Another example of the COMDB translation department circular illogic. After all that I needed a beer.

Our Montreal based brewer, 3 Brasseurs, guarantees us “bons moments” with their bière and they delivered those good times with their patio pint Amberée.  They tell us that Anémone is juteuse and fruiteé. I made an executive decision not to call in the translation department on that one.

A hazy juicer with a healthy head of foam, picture that, which I did. Mild hops with juice smells like a damn good IPA to me.  The taste is juicy juicer with some malt floral (anemone?) going on too but the juice is the main attraction. A substantial almost creamy mouthfeel. Despite the higher IBU there is no bitter, it’s a smooth quaff and finish, the hops are almost not there. It does have a bit of a double IPA kick to it, more like a nudge or a boop than a kick. How many other flavours can they squeeze in here? I don’t know, but it all works. A tasty complex multi layered IPA.

By the time I was done I wished I wasn’t. Great beer.

*Editor’s Comment: The translation department failed to recognize the possible reference to the famous French actress Anémone. Anne Bourguignon began to use the stage name Anémone after playing the lead role in the 1968 film of the same name.
