Kenya, the best big 5 safari country and immortalized by Hemingway, and just like Canada, still part of the British Commonwealth.* Kame & Kettle’s “Did It For Kenya”  seems a touching tribute to this beautiful East African country.**

On to the beer at hand and in hand. A sunset golden pour, with a true at first light bright white head. The aroma of an IPA waiting to happen, tropical fruit and hops fueling my anticipation. First taste is mild tropical fruit with middlin’ hops, a bit of fizz, and some slight but right bitters on the backend. Very tasty.

A nice smooth slick mouthfeel results in a big swig or two, ok, a few. Very easy drinking and refreshing. It didn’t evolve but was consistently balanced from start to finish, quite possibly because the finish was so close to the start. Great IPA. Hemingway would approve.***

*Editor’s Comment: The big 5 safari animals are lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and buffalo. Hemingway had two extended stays in Kenya and wrote a number of stories about his experiences there. The 1935 non-fiction book “The Green Hills of Africa” is an account of his 1933 safari there. His last book, ”True at First Light” was published posthumously in 1999, and is a fictional memoir based on his 1953 safari.

**Editor’s Comment: When our reviewer misses the mark it is usually by a substantial margin. K&K is not tributing Kenya here, but is phonetically spelling (sounding out) the phrase “Get It the Fuck in Ya.”

***Editor’s Comment: Hemingway was well known to be a heavy drinker, and in his novels his preferences were varied mixed and exotic drinks. Beer seemed to be a breakfast drink for him on safari. In real life his go to was scotch and soda.
