A Two Pad Polkaroo Pint

Two Pad Stack

Sawdust City Brewing

9% Alcohol

What the hell is a two pad stack you may be wondering. Maybe a breakfast double helping at IHOP? Or your favourite Thai dish? Perhaps it’s the cosmetic surgeon’s “Dolly Parton” special.* If you’re contemplating these and other possible explanations you’re wrong and obviously not a hockey fan. Take a gander at the beer can art by Danya King and you will see the Sawdust City tender (of the goal not the bar) in mid two pad stack about to pull off a glove save that’s going to make the highlight reel.

Polkaroo, the beloved polka dotted kangaroo

This SC West Coast IPA certainly has the numbers. The daily double with 9% against the spread and a 60 IBU cover, sounds like this pint will parlay into a brew you can bet on. Sawdust has collaborated with Drunk Polkaroo on this one. Once again, in case your wondering, Drunk Polkaroo isn’t the all grown up and now of legal drinking age kangaroo from the Polka Dot Door,**  but an all grown up (but still a young fella at 50) and of legal drinking age beer blogger and former goal tender.

As for this brew. It pours a dark golden hue, with a nice white head to cover the spread. Juicy and dank on the nose, a funk fest may be in the offing? Some hops in there too for a fulsome and complex aroma. And just like it’s aroma, this brew is juicy, with a full mouthfeel and a dank body, leading to a hoppy finish. A slightly boozy after taste is the only indication of a double high ABV brewski.  What you got is what you get, or vice versa. This brew didn’t really evolve in my glass, it was balanced, consistent and a nice juicy hoppy treat start to finish.

Some brewers stick to their core brews which I respect but Sawdust is one of our favourites and they make lots of different brews, they take chances and the vast majority are super suds. And this is another delicious double destined for super suds stardom. Well done SC, with some coaching from DP (that would be Drunk Polkaroo, not Dolly Parton) on the sidelines.

*Editor’s Comment: Dolly Parton has been open about her breast enhancement and had stated that she had paid more than $1 Million for the work, although she did clarify that contrary to popular belief they are not insured.

**Editor’s Comment: The Polka Dot Door was a Canadian children’s show which ran from 1971 to1993. The characters included Polkaroo, a polka dotted kangaroo, along with Humpty, Dumpty, Bear and Marigold.
