“Wasn’t she a beer drinkin’ woman? Don’t ya know, man don’t ya know?” In 1941 Memphis Slim* was singing about his date at the Ruby Tavern who drank away all his money! I’ve heard of blind dates, but this sounded like a blind drunk date. Fast forward to some 30 years later and Suzi Quatro is ushering in a new era of rock with a kick ass woman musician leading her own rock band.* And wasn’t she a beer drinking woman too! I’m not sure if Memphis Slim would be in awe or in fear.
This beer is not from the Society of Beer Drinkin’ Women, or the Grand Dames Sipping Suds, but is a collaboration between The Society of Beer Drinking Ladies, who sound like a real class act to me, and Spearhead Brewery, who sound like a brewery to me. And after trying out the SOBDL’s cherry dark, now we are tying into their pineapple light.
A light slightly hazy pour, I think the camera puts about ten pounds on this beer, because it’s lighter in person. Fizzy fresh aroma, light and juicy. The taste is a very mild tropical juicer with a Pilsner slight crisp on the finish. If it didn’t say pineapple on the label, I’d be trying to figure out the subtle tropical taste, so good job with the fruit. Nice light body, a bit fizzy and with a flat slightly harsh finish. The finish alternates between crisp and astringent. A nice understated fruit body and a crisp, at times bitter, at times slightly acerbic, finish. Summer suds for sure.
