A bit of a puzzle, this one. The green and gold on the can label are pretty unusual in the beer line up. The picture has a couple of birds – oh wait, they’re Toucans,* drinking two cans of beer. That could be a piece of the puzzle. This is an oatmeal stout from Prince Eddy’s Brewing which brings to mind a hearty, flavourful quaff that I would normally link with winter weather. So why the tropical birds in muted colours drinking a beer in a tree? The label invites us to “.. wander down Yonder”, so I’m thinking they didn’t mean this beer is for the birds, but that this beer is different and unexpected.
Having made the pour, I am contemplating all of this as I drink this dark, rich stout. This isn’t a type of beer I am normally reaching for and I often find them overwhelming with smokiness or sometimes sweet. But this brew is very smooth and exceptionally drinkable. For the non-stout lovers out there I can confidently recommend this brew as worthy of your taste buds. I’m all in on the unexpected in this can.
Yonder could make a stout drinker out of me.
