Hop Knots

Four Peaks Brewery

6.7% Alcohol

Visiting Arizona, I find myself in a dry state. Time to tackle Four Peaks. Hiking in the mountains? Heavens no, who do you think I am, Jaques Cousteau?* No, I’m talking about the Tempe based brewery.** Got me a variety pack, figured I’d tackle all four Four Peaks before the week is out.  The first Peak pint in the pecking order is Hop Knot. West Coast styling with 5 different hops tied in knots of hoppiness and hopefully happiness.

An aromatic expansion of a juicy hoppy pop of a pour. Head strong but not for long. A muted golden colour, a bit hazy.  You know when you’re walking in the bush and the idiot in front of you is gazing at something in the trees as he pulls back a bough from a 100 year old pinetree and being bereft of common sense or any clue whatsoever lets it fly and that piney bough catches you square in the choppers.*** Well, first taste of this brew is like that pine bough to the face wake up slap, only in a good way.  A juicy hoppy first swig, with some fizz to go with the pine bitters.

As the name would imply, the hops are the standout with this one, although the juice is worth the squeeze. A big time balancing act with the pine bitters tipping the scales. Refreshing hoppy juicer. Those who like it hoppy will be happy.

*Editor's Comment: Of course, Cousteau explored the ocean depths, not the mountainous heights.

**Editor's Comment: Four Peaks began producing craft beer in the mid 90's. In 2015 they were purchased by Anheuser-Busch.

***Editor's Comment: There is a good chance that pine bough branch was launched on purpose, considering who the target was.
