Murdoch Mystery beer? I am always suspect of a brew named to ride to coattails of a popular TV show, or even a CBC TV show. Although come to think of it I was skeptical about Puppers and it was a pretty damn good brew. But on Kilkenny they are drinking Puppers beer so hopping on that bandwagon wasn’t a huge departure of logic. What Murdoch Mysteries has to do with beer or their contribution in this “collaboration” is no one’s guess, because it doesn’t, as far as I know. I must admit I know squat about Murdoch Mysteries, having never seen the show myself. ***
But you are wondering how I deduced that this beer is about the mysteries of this fellow Murdoch. Is it my keen Sherlokian deductive talents? Am I channeling Poirot?* Did the intriguing tip of the hat artwork** tip me off? None of the above. What has transpired here is I have taken the Editor’s advice and read the fine print where it says on the can in black and white. “Murdoch Mysteries”. Apparently it is a CSI type of show, but based in Toronto not in Vegas, and during the late 1800’s not the year 2000. Hmmm. Not sure if I will be tuning in soon.
Time to investigate this Longslice brew using the most advanced beer tasting techniques available. A luminous golden pour under the white light, a bit bubbly with a head to match. A very mild bread malt aroma. Time for the DBA test (drink this beer already). A malt bread traditional lager but instead of sweet it has a floral touch and an attempt at crisp finish. Very much Pilsner like in its presentation. Big swigs field more flower power, for a not quite basic lager with a bit more floral than usual. I not a big floral fan, I find those arrangements more fitting for weddings and funerals than for my beer.
Now that I’ve got to the bottom of it there’s no mystery here. A basic larger with a floral flourish where the sweet should be. Unfortunately, the mystery of where did my lager sweet go remains a cold case.
