Despite a sometimes hazy memory to go with a hazy IPA, this Haze Phaze beer did look very familiar. It was when I tasted it that I remembered RA sampled this Mill Streeter at the Blue Jays game and remarked that it was “bitter up” during his seventh inning stretch. It seemed like a fitting evening imbibement while in downtown TO enjoying a similar view of the Sky Dome as the one we had on game day from our extremely cheap seats.
A thick super hazy particles pour, looks fresh squeezed. Let’s hope the juice is worth the squeeze. It has a juicy slightly dank aroma, some hops in there too. The taste is citrus tangy juicy with grapefruit bitters. Balanced, and no dank in the tank…. yet. Second swig some high-octane bitters turned up and took charge. Yep, very bitter, above and beyond bitter, bitterer than its 45 IBU would suggest, that’s for sure. After a few more swigs the bitters settled down a bit, or perhaps my taste buds folded like origami, submitting to the bitter bud bashing and beating. Hmm, the term “bud bashing” stirs up bitter memories of a recent playoff series. Just another post round 1 depression, a bitter phaze I go through each year.
This is one big time bitters brewski, for lovers of bitters, as opposed to bitter lovers. So step up to the plate if that’s your game.
