Hey Hudson, why have just one, when you can have a Lake of Bays. That’s right, I’m missing my Muskoka so pouring a Lake of Bays Morning Haze. My usual antidote for a morning haze is a strong cup of joe. Of course, by the time I have finished one cup, Farmer Steve is on his second pot of high octane undecaffeinated espresso.
As far as a break of day brew goes, maybe Sheryl likes a good beer buzz early in the morning* but I’m not much of a day drinker myself. The Stanley Cup playoffs, now that’s another kettle of fish, I’ll drink to that. So last night I popped the top on this wobbly pop and settled into my lazy boy to cheer on Team Canada** (the Oilers) take the first game of the series against the Dall-ass No Stars.
My Morning Haze was a foamy tome, a piled high froth, too high to quaff. After a settlement far quicker than any insurance company ever made, ever, the aroma that came through was juicy hoppy. At 69 IBU hops on the nose is no surprise, and I’m expecting a big hoppy finish. And hoppy it is, start to finish, with a fizz that means business. It is juicy but with a soft mouth feel, not purée juicy just mild to middlin’.
Hoppy is the main attraction with some juice in the background. The juice seems tropical or berry but muted and soft as opposed to sharp. Mellow, that’s what the juice is. An easy access double. Maybe this brew is not the right pairing with honey roasted nuts? Or maybe that just helps accentuate the hoppiness? A Bays juicer for hopsters, or a hopster for juicers. It eventually morphed into a juiced double with a hoppy body and a touch of a boozy double finish. Beer: hoppy finish. Hockey game: happy finish. Coincidence? Perhaps.
