Having a dinner with some civil engineers, looks like the menu is jumbo shrimp with a dark lite. Since these oxymorons are all old news. any enthusiasm for them is usually found missing, and all we end up with is intense apathy followed by a deafening silence. Maybe I’m making something of nothing, but all I’m hoping for is that this beer is awfully good.
Not our first contrarian lager, a yin yang brewski. This Beyond the Pale Evening Edition was news at 10. This dark lite pours very dark and very lite. A thin as gin watery pour. Pair that with a thin roast malt aroma, stoutly but barely. The taste is light for sure. Mild roast with a lager sweet and a tad of a tingle. As progress was made the sweet geared up a bit, cocoa kickin’ in. Then the sweet subsided, then returned. Seesaw sweets.
A light wheat like body with a dark cocoa sweet presence. A very thin mouthfeel just in case you forgot how light this brew actually is. They tell us it’s “the beer you want when you need it most”. I’m not sure what “it” is, I assume “it” is this beer, in which case their statement is correct. I’m not sure if it’s the beer you want when you need anything else, but that’s just me.
This evening edition is a lite read. A lite dark for those who like their darks lite.
