Ever go out for dinner to a new place and it’s so good you want to tell everyone about it? Ever go out to dinner to a new place and it was so bad you want to tell everyone about it? Unfortunately, our date night last night falls into the second category. The waiter apologized that the tap water was not safe to drink so would we like to buy a bottle of water. A 500ml plastic bottle that said “Compliments” must have been stored near the grill, warm as bath water, and did not deserve or receive any compliments. Meanwhile I’m thinking that the unsuitable for human consumption water is quite possibly being used to cook with? Things went down the proverbial hill from there. The missus’s salmon must have been feeding near a water treatment plant and then cooked on a rank plank. I think at least 4 old grizzled roosters gave up their backs for my chicken teri-yucki. All served up with stinky (not a typo) rice, I wonder what water that was boiled in? We couldn’t eat any of it.
Time to leave and the Owner, recognizing that our meals were terrible (after me telling him so) graciously deducted 10% off the bill so I only had to pay $90. I’m not going to name the restaurant but if you’re in the Muskokas and have a hankering for some sushi by the water may I suggest you consider a much better food, beer and service experience at Sawdust City instead.
So back at the lake house we go for a cold plate and a cold one. Salami and suds, session suds to be precise. Elora is offering some Maxin’ Relaxin’. For those of you unfamiliar with modern day jargon, it is short for Maximum Relaxation.* It just so happens that after a terrible dinner experience I am keen on some maximum relaxation and this Session IPA so named may be just the ticket.
This brew pours a super pale lemon lime haze with a superfluous as in substantial bright white head taking the upper the top third of my glass. An aroma of citrus peach somehow makes its way through the foam fest. A very light tasty juicer with minimal hops and bitters and a smidgen of fizz. A light, airy mouthfeel. A touch of bitters enters the picture. A refreshing easy drinking session IPA made for exactly what it’s named for. It is definitely light in all categories, and well balanced. Interestingly enough as it warmed it maintained its balance, something most beers don’t do.**
