That’s one ugly fish.
The creepy, dare I say disturbing, denizen of the deep that graces the can is the angler fish, and to be brutally honest, that’s one ugly fish. When you’re that ugly I don’t care how great a personality you have, the only way to be attractive is with a fancy car and a big bank account. But with no wheels and insufficient funds, what makes this fish attractive to other fish is its own lamplight. A fish that fishes for fish. * Apparently, they catch fish very rarely, which I can relate to. But no catch and release happening here with those gruesome toothsomes.
Of course, on surface a lamplighter is someone who lights lamps, an occupation without a great future these days with this new-fangled technology called electricity. But back in the day they provided a valuable service to the community, just like Brothers Brewing does today.** Bit of a stretch you say. Everyone is a critic.
A well-lit pour, bright golden orange, sweating under a the third-degree spotlight. A slim as can be head of white, bright as well. An aroma of fruit and hops and some malt funk for good measure. The first taste is juicy mellow stone fruit. Peach perhaps? Perhaps. Some hops in there too and a bit of zing, but not hoppy, very mild and well balanced. A full mouthfeel. The malt funk shows up every now and then but very mild. Balanced and consistent from the juicy introduction to the hoppy hasta la vista finish.
I was craving a good old fashioned IPA, it was a lamplight kinda night. I didn’t get lit on a one and done, but I certainly enjoyed this fruitful IPA.
