An Alien Master Mind triple IPA sounds out of this world, especially at 10.3%. I’m usually one and done, but when that one is a triple with an ABV that’s double, that’s trouble. Me and Farmer Steve look to stretch our drinking dollar whenever we can, so when it comes to alcohol content two for the price of one sounds like a good deal, and a good deal more than usual.
Flying Monkeys triples are unique but not alien to us COM. There was their Chocolate Manifesto, an Elf on the beer shelf selection. And Sparklepuff, that furry and dangerous galaxy starfighter. Other triples have graced our pages as well with mixed results. When it comes to triples we always worry about too much of a good thing, but then I harken back to the immortal words of Mae West who said “too much of a good thing can be wonderful”. Will this FM triple be over the top or will it rock the block. Time to taste and tell.
It sure is a good looking pour, a ruddy golden hazy hue with a bright white mango mind melt of a head. Tropical candy and hops on the nose, not a boozy aroma but mango puree and sweet is coming on strong. The first taste is an onslaught of this, that and the other. Sweet tropical fruit with floral and a back end kick and burn with a lingering boozy aftertaste and that’s just the first swig! It is strong, complex, and somewhat intimidating but at the same time intriguing. I’m channeling Darwin and charting the evolution of malt and yeast beast. The floral fades by the second quaff, thank goodness. What carries on is a full tropical fruit body, definitely some mango in there as advertised, with some afterburners kicking in too. Despite the high ABV you can big swig this one if you’re willing to take on the strong finish. Not a go to brew or a fridge stocker but if you are in the mood for a triple this will do the job. All in all, I was all in, and by the end of it I was done in.
I think a triple is all about mind over matter, if you don’t mind trying one by the time you’re done it doesn’t matter. This Alien Master Mind had his way with me, my mind was melted,* but I didn’t mind.
