They cancelled the Late Night show of the Honorary Mayor of Dildo, * can you believe it! But one week later Jimmy was back with a vengeance, literally. ** Me, I’m having a Late Night at noon for a 5 o’clock somewhere brew, no cable required for this daytime drama. Just a visit to Couchiching brewhouse for some soup, salad and suds.
The place was quite busy but when I handed my COMDB business card to the helpful staff they immediately seated me at an empty table. “Would you like something to drink” is a rhetorical question for us COM, no question mark required. I am partial to a dark brew and their German Dark Lager looked like my likely lunch libation.
Midnight dark out of the can, with an ever so slim tan froth, too slim to blow off. An aroma of mild roast malt touch of cocoa. First taste is mild malt and full cocoa lager sweet with a smooth as satin finish. A middlin’ mouthfeel, not nitro creamy but not watery either. The smooth finish evolves to dry but no real bitterness, making for an easy drinking dark going down.
A very tasty lunch to go with great service and a super suds brew too. Well done Couchiching. I hope this Late Night never gets cancelled.
*Editor’s Comment: The town of Dildo Newfoundland attracted some Hollywood notoriety in 2019 when Jimmy Kimmel did a bit on the town on his show. The town invited him to visit and eventually Kimmel was appointed Honorary Mayor.
**Editor’s Comment: On September 17th 2025 ABC and Disney suspended production of Jimmy Kimmel Live! following some political comments he made on the show. One week later the show was reinstated. The official statement from Disney and ABC was that after thoughtful discussions with Jimmy the suspension was lifted. Unofficially there was a tremendous backlash of public opinion regarding the suspension, with potential boycotts and a drop in Disney’s share price equivalent to a $4.99 billion reduction in market cap.
