Trick or Trill

Goblin's Trill

Bellwoods & Blood Brothers Brewing

8% Alcohol

Kicking off the Cranky Old trick or treat countdown with the alliterative craft collab combo of Bellwoods & Blood Brothers. I’m doubling down and downing a double with a Goblin’s Trill. Will it be the trill of victory or the agony of defeat? *

Some spooky suds.

Both brewers were well represented at Flowfest with Halloween worthy pours. Bellwoods filled it to the rim with a not at all grim Lil Reaper  while Blood Brothers, the crafty crone coiffures they are, served up some Witch’s Hair.

After the pop of the top I wasn’t sure if I heard a goblin’s trill or if it was just my tinnitus. Then the rest of my senses were put to work. I could see a super hazy OJ extra pulp pour with a ghostly white head. I could smell a very citrusy juicer, very hoppy on the nose. Could be double trouble.

First taste was a light mouthfeel but very juicy very hoppy with a bitter backend bite, but not boozy.  It smooths a bit as the mouthfeel becomes more substantial, still juicy, still that double bite and still not boozy. Getting smooth enough to actually accommodate a big swig, not oft recommended for doubles, but I couldn’t resist. Resistance was futile.**

I know how BB King felt, because far to soon the trill was gone.***

A double and a half but smooth and tasty, I wouldn’t say easy drinking. How about as easy drinking as it gets for a double. Balanced and not boozy, that’s a pair you can double down on.

*Editor’s Comment: The tag line “The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat” was the intro to ABC’s Wide World of Sports which ran from 1961 to 1997. The agony of defeat video clip was of Slovenian ski jumper Vinko Bogataj who in 1970 suffered a brutal crash from his jump. Remarkably the only injuries he sustained were a concussion and a broken ankle.

**Editor’s Comment: In your case it was probably infantile as well.

***Editor’s Comment: The1951 song “The Thrill is Gone” was written by Roy Hawkins and Rick Darnell. The 1969 BB King recorded what was to become a blues classic, some would say the blues classic. The song earned him a Grammy.
