They say the devil is in the details. * They say a lot of other trite cliches as well, but some how this one seemed appropriate. Our Cranky Old trick or treat countdown has bookend Blood Brothers Bellwoods brews. First their Goblin’s Trill, and now their Devil’s Sauce. The details of this collaboration are that the two brewers shared the same recipe and then challenged each other to make the same beer, only different. So each added something special to the mix to make their brew unique and hopefully tasty. Devil’s Sauce is the Blood Brothers version. Time to see if this brew is devilishly good or just bedeviled.
This pour looked perfect. Let’s put it this way, you wouldn’t need to photoshop this pour to put it on a website. A solid golden haze with a one finger foamy froth. Point of interest, the head stayed for almost the whole quaff, not always or even usually the case.
A tangy citrus hoppy aroma, lots going on here. First taste is sweet hoppy tropical juicy funky all at once with an ever so slight double backend burn to remind you this is an 8% solution. Full mouthfeel almost creamy. The orange lemon mango sweet backs off a bit, hoppy tang balances things out. This busy brew settled into a bold tasty juicer, it is a double so always a little dangerous, but at the same time easy drinking and quite enjoyable. Every swig was a bit different; it kept my taste buds on their toes. The 8 % did it’s job and by halfway through we had come to an understanding, that being that this brew is a super sudser.
