ラブ・ミー・ドゥ ****

The Beatles, Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, KISS, they all rocked Tokyo. *  Me, never been there, haven’t done that, and didn’t get the T- shirt. There lots I don’t know about Tokyo, and now there’s one more thing.  Why would Swedish based Omnipollo name this beer after Japan’s capital city? ** But when it comes to such thought-provoking questions, us COM are just like ol’ Alfie Lord Tennyson’s light brigade, ours is not to reason why, ours is but to pour and score. ***

This one is a thick and hazy muted orange with lots of bits and pieces, a citrus snow globe. Add on a non-stop foam top that peaked long after pouring. It has a juicy fruit sweet citrus aroma. The taste is a middlin’ tropical juice leading right into a flat very mild almost crisp bitter with a fizzy finish. The fizz fades a bit, the  juice sweet subsides and at 5.4% this one settles into a nice light almost session IPA. Easy drinking and quite refreshing.

It looks like Omnipollo rocks Tokyo too.

*Editor’s Comment: Many major rock bands have toured Japan. The Beatles played 5 sold  out shows at the Budokan in 1966. Although it became the main rock stage in Japan (Deep Purple and Cheap Trick released live albums from their Budokan Tokyo concerts), at that time it was considered to be a national shrine to Japan’s war dead and many people protested having a rock group play there.  The venue only seated 10,000 but it was reported that 30,000 uniformed police officers were on duty to protect the Beatles. KISS holds the record for the most concerts in Japan by an International rock group. The Rolling Stones, U2, Bon Jovi, Queen, Aerosmith, all did extensive touring of Japan as well.

**Editor’s Comment: Omnipollo named this beer Tokyo to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of Omnipollo’s bar in Tokyo, Japan. Although Omnipollo is Swedish based, this beer was brewed under license in Ontario by The Craft Brand Company.

***Editor’s Comment: Once again our Reviewer has butchered another classic. Alfred Lord Tennyson’s “The Charge of the Light Brigade” includes the famous line “Theirs not to reason why, theirs but to do and die”.

****COMDB Translation Department: ラブ・ミー・ドゥ (Rabu mī do~u) in English is “Love Me Do”
