This is the original wheat, not one of those Johnny come lately wheats, or those pale wheat imitators. This way back wheat is apparently what started it all for Side Launch, way back in 2014! Talk about a bygone era. Or we could talk about sarcasm.
SL has a classic pickup on the can hauling bales of wheat with some prairie wheat silos in the background. Maybe the wheat comes from Ester-hazy Saskatchewan because the isoamyl acetate is a constant with this one, from initial aroma to final swig. * But will this be a bananarama brewski or a more subtle and a-peeling pint? A quaffing is in the offing.
An outstanding respectable and well-presented pour, fields of gold with a creamy one finger head. The first whiff of jiff, and there’s the banana. The taste is fresh light wheat banana, with a creamy smooth mouthfeel and a bit of a fizzy finish. The banana is always there, mildly dominant, wielding a feather boa rather than a whip. **
No blueberries or raspberries or blackberries or huckleberries. No grapefruit or cranberries. Lemon and ginger are noticeably absent. Peaches and apricots are still in the basket. Pineapples? Nope. Elderflower and watermelon didn’t make an appearance. Hibiscus wasn’t even an option. Definitely not a Dunkel. *** This is just wheat, that’s it that’s all. And as far as just wheat goes this one is just right.
