A Hamilton Tiger Craft

Tiki Tiger

Clifford Brewing Co. and AquaNova

6% Alcohol

My bamboo bar and south sea settees were on a tiki tape parade last night. If you’re wondering why wicker and the décor of terrifying totems and tankards, the answer is our brew du jour. Tiki Tiger is a Steeltown tag team collab between Clifford and AquaNova. Maybe this should be for sale at the Hamilton Tiger Cats home games?

Shere Khan was bent on Mowgli’s demise,* but this fermented feline has a more noble purpose. Every can supports ALES for ALS, a charity we first ran into at the Ontario Craft Brewers Association conference. ** Time for a Tiki Tiger taste test.

A semi clear two shades of golden pour. A one finger froth. A tropical fruit aroma, definitely hoppy. This is a tropical tiger with a top of the food chain bite to it, aggressive juice and hops nicely balanced. The sharp middlin’ backend bitter migrates to the aftertaste as things smooth out a bit. What we end up with is a smooth juicer, which just happens to be a solid big swigger as the bitters backing off a bit.

An enjoyable tropical juicy American style IPA.

*Editor’s Comment: In Rudyard Kipling’s 1894 collection of short stories, The Jungle Book, the main antagonist is Shere Kahn, a Bengal tiger who hates humans.

** Editor’s Comment: Since 2013, ALES for ALS has been raising funds and awareness for ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). The international fund has raised over $10 Million to date for research at the ALS Therapy Development Institute.
