An Old Flame worth remembering.
Some have surmised my love of amber is directly related to an old flame. Unrequited long lost love. Fond reminiscing of what could have been but never was. Broken heart on my tear drenched sleeve without reprieve.
Nope, I just love the taste.
But I must admit when I saw the name Old Flame I immediately thought amber. Why? Well, I love me an amber for starters, I guess that’s why. No other reason. Really.
Stopped in at Madrocks * for a bite and a brew and they had an Old Flame Red on tap. Actually a Vienna Lager, it shines amber red with a clear and dear to my heart pour. A nice white head above the red. Malt, caramel and some graininess on the nose. A full malt body, no faint of heart flavour here. With some caramel sweet and nice mild bitters in the finish. Love at first swig. As it evolved the sweet was almost simultaneous with the mild bitters, nice sequence and great balance.
An amber love affair for the ages. Is that a tear you ask? No, I’m not crying, I just had somebody, I mean something in my eye.
Great beer too.
