A Penny for Wandering Thoughts

India Pale Ale

Kingsville Brewery Co.

6.5% Alcohol

Another rogue trip to Kingsville, wandering and wondering what their IPA will be like. Kingsville claims that their beers are for those that wander, maybe this beer will be the Rosie on Dion’s chest, or will Kingsville be U2’s city without a soul?*

Love the Lincoln

This brew pours old penny copper dark, darker than most IPAs. By the way, do you still have a bunch of pennies you can’t get rid of? You would think when people realize it costs more to produce then it’s worth is when the penny would drop, to “coin” a phrase.** I expect the price of a thought has gone up as well. Penny wise, pound foolish I guess.

Where was I? Fruit aroma with hops, old school perhaps. My nose has been unreliable lately, better wait for the taste test. A mild fruit body, very slick, with a hoppy bitter minor zing on the back nine. A traditional IPA, not much wondering or wandering going on from the classic recipe I suspect.  A fruit front and a mildly bitter hoppy floral finish.  An easy swigging refreshing body with a bit of zing at the end to remind you of where you are and what you’re up to. A solid traditional IPA.

*Editor’s Comment: Dion (Dion DiMucci) had a 1961 hit from the album “Runaround Sue” with his song “The Wanderer”. “And when she asks me which one I love the best, I tear open my shirt I got Rosie on my chest.” Not to be confused and nothing like U2’s song “The Wanderer”, one of the few U2 songs where Bono didn’t sing lead, Johnny Cash fronted the band for that one. “Lifted some stones saw the skin and bones, Of a city without a soul.”

**Editor’s Comment: In the US in 2021 a penny cost 2.1 cents to produce. What’s wrong with this picture? Minting of pennies in Canada was discontinued in 2013. Several bills introduced in the U.S. Congress would have ceased production of pennies, but none have been approved. A recent US poll has 68% of the public in favour of keeping the penny. The US love their Lincolns.
