A Tail To Tell

Whitetail Cream Ale

Kingston Brewing Co.

5% Alcohol

Telling the tail of a cream ale. A congregation of cranky old craft connoisseurs met at Ontario’s oldest brew pub,* the Kingston Brewing Co. A meeting of the minds with Farmer Steve and RA in attendance. We focused on the house offerings, although there were no “on the house” offerings. Beer is not cheap these days, certainly not as cheap as the COM in the room.

A Quaint Spot for a Quaff

We asked the server what she would recommend. I let her know right away that RA was a flight risk, so single samples only please.  How about Dragon’s Breath she said. I passed on that telling her I sample that first thing every morning. How about a Whitetail? Farmer Steve said that brew sounds familiar. Fun fact, Farmer Steve has a pornographic memory, never forgets a tail. Sure enough, a quick fact check determined that Whitetail was a contestant in the 2nd Annual COMDB AGM. Time for a full review to see if this deer beer is still endearing.

A light golden pour, minimal head. A light refreshing nice mild malt with a subtle sweet lager like body and a slightly dry finish, not bitter at all. Very easy drinking, it went down faster than a European soccer star.  Ideal pub tap fare. Fond memories of trays of draft at the Royal back in the day, but better beer.

Atmosphere to Spare

Great pub atmosphere combined with a great pub ale made for a less cranky contingent than usual. This brew has been certified super suds status by a notary pub goer.

*Editor’s Comment: Established in 1986, KBC claims to be Ontario’s oldest brew pub. Granville Island in Vancouver is a few years older and claims to be Canada’s first craft brewer.
