A windswept day on the lake for sure, a storm brewin’ and stewin’. Here comes a downpour that would make old Noah nervous. Complete with audio and visual, the thunder and lightning means the fish will have to wait. Let’s see what the cottage library has on the shelf. Looks like either of these could be riveting reads. I remember reading somewhere that we are defined by our choices.* Did you know that the first brewery in Ontario dates back to 1634! Fascinating.
This wolfish Scottish ale from Scottish brewer Windswept claims to be as dark and strong as the ongoing storm. In the pic it does look as black and ominous as those storm clouds, but it in real life it is a very dark brown. A thin white wisp of a halo around the edges, no silver lining here. Strong stout aroma of roasted malt, a bit nutty. It smells strong like the wolf, the call of the wild. ** A porter like ale, will it be a great Scot, or not?
Full flavour roasted malt, nutty rye and a strong finish, not so much an aftertaste as a lingering. I like it but some won’t. It’s too honest for politics, too strong for newbies, and too dark for day drinking, but just right for tonight. The finish is moving, and moving towards smoothing. A scottish ale pretending to be a porter who’s strong enough to handle diva luggage. Is this finish getting sweet on me? Should I be flattered?
Windswept tells us it’s “best when you’ve earned it”*** but a big lottery win would certainly stave off the wolf at the door. That being said, if it’s this Wolf at the door, I’m letting him in. He is a winner, in my books anyway.
