I am accustomed to having my breakfast wheat shredded, not fermented. But if Kris Kristofferson, Jim Morrison and Sheryl Crow all recommend a breakfast barley sandwich then it must be a thing, just not my thing.* Or you could have beerios, which is substituting beer for milk in your Cheerios, but I don’t think it’s a real thing, at least I hope not. Breakfast menu set aside, the wheat beer is the bane of us COM, not a favourite. But Silversmith is one of our favourite brewers, and when the brewery is in a church, well you gotta have faith.
No breakfast buffet brewski this one, but a warm night by the pool pint. A soft golden glow, super hazy with foam. Some bubbles happening here. Subtle cloves and some banana appeal on the nose. And the first taste is a fizzy subtle banana with some spices way in the background and in the aftertaste. No banana boat here, it’s a mild just right bananarama with mellow spices for a nice refreshing wheat. A larger swig unearths some spice notes. It evolved into a slightly crisp backend with a soft mouthfeel. As it warmed the spices came out of their shell but were never overbearing. Balanced and subtle.
Wheat beers aren’t my thing but as far as the genre goes this is a good one.
