The Oilers’ Cinderella story came to an abrupt end last night and it was no Disney ending. The Cup ends up South of the border once again, much to the chagrin of most Canadians.* All I can say is 2024-25 Go Leafs Go.
In anticipation of a nerve-racking Stanley Cup final game seven I thought an easy going Lager would be an appropriate wing can. So I checked out my trusty, and dare I say well stocked, beer fridge. What to my wandering eye did appear, but a Nickel Brook Easy Going Lager beer. As light as you can get without being one, an ABV of 4.1 when all is said and done.
A light golden yellow pour, straw yellow. Lighter in person than in the pic. The camera puts a couple of pounds on all of us, doesn’t it? Well, doesn’t it? A malt bread aroma, classic lager. It has a watery light mouthfeel with a full malt body. No lager sweet but instead a very crisp dry finish. Initially it was more like a Pilsner than a lager. As it evolved the lager sweet came to the plate with that crisp finish batting cleanup. This brew had enough flavour to be not quite light, and that’s quite alright in my books. A tasty light, but not lite, lager.
