It was a very humid summer day and the anticipation of the Lemon Wheat beer was incredibly high. Lemon and beer are a great combination for a hot summer’s day. When I was a young boy, I’d take my Saturday morning allowance and head to the local neighbourhood store to buy a variety of popsicles of different colours and flavours (with my 25 cents, I could buy 5 popsicles). Within the half hour, my allowance for the week was spent but I nonetheless had a grin from ear to ear. I treated myself to the pure pleasure of a cold popsicle. Time long since past, I still like to treat myself but with an adult treat. Could Lemon Wheat beer be my new adult summer replacement treat?
Crafted by Mill Street, what better combination of ingredients than carbonated water, hops, organic malted barley and wheat, black tea and lemon puree? You had me at lemon! The yellow can with the yellow lemon illustration said it all! The colour was a beautiful liquid gold with a slight uniform haze. When the first sip was taken, the beer was delicious, smooth and consistent. But spoiler alert, the lemon flavour was too distant, barely traceable for my liking. You brought me up but you let me down… The lemon messaging on the can had my anticipation far too great than the flavour delivered. In a blind taste test, would you taste this beer and pick “lemon flavour notes” on your list of attributes….I think not. For the brew masters at Mill Street, this dilemma can quite easily be fixed for 2023*. As per Carly Simon’s “Anticipation” song lyrics, Tea Time Lemon Wheat is “keepin’ me waitin’”**.
