I’m 12 years old so let me tell ya’ what it’s all about.
The Jackson 5 took us back to basics, teaching us our ABCs and 123’s. Of course, MJ was too young to be having a beer in those days,* let alone hooking up with the girl he’s singing to, but no one seemed to notice back in those “innocent’ times. A 12 year old singing “Let me tell ya what it’s all about’? That type of statement is usually reserved for teenagers. By the time you get to be a cranky old man the one thing you know is that you have no idea what any of it’s about, or even what it is. I know, digressing again, what’s that all about?
Where I was going with the back to basics statement is that is what this Willibald brew brought to mind. No fancy pants label art, or cute confounding name, just “Export Lager” which is another name for a Dortmunder Lager. Those of us old enough to remember but not old enough to forget will recall that a little DAB’ll do you. This one seems to be a straight shooter, straight from the farm into my glass.
A clear full golden pour, shades of Oktoberfests past. A touch of frost to top off this inviting quaff. Malt aroma that’s it that’s all. First taste is middlin’ malt with a light fresh body and a slight crisp finish. Very nice. Big swiggin’ it and diggin’ it. Not missin’ a beat, now there’s some Lager sweet. A smooth operator, a thirst terminator. This farm fresh refresh hits all the right notes. Malt, slight sweet, and a crisp finish all in tune and balance. And I didn’t even notice the higher than usual for a lager ABV.
A good back to basics solid easy quaffing lager, a crushable farm craft.
