Crossing the border, this time literally. My mission, to achieve a New York state of mind by scoring some New York State brewskies. To achieve this crafty clandestine caper I have devised a foolproof cover. I have the misses and the grandkids in tow and the vehicle packed to the rafters with ski equipment. “Reason for visiting the most powerful nation in the world ” I thought I heard the border patrolman ask. “Going to drink…..in the local culture and do some skiing” I responded.  A long drive with the whole family is guaranteed to drive me to drink, which is in fact a much shorter drive. So in my fragile state in the States, and in anticipation of a frosty cold one I almost blew my cover, but I think I re-covered admirably.

After my borderline border botch a Borderland brew seemed apropos. 42 North* is the South of the border borderland brewer of Borderland IPA, which just so happened to be on tap at our “family” dinner (cover still intact).

A hazy dark orange pour base with a dusting of fresh white head. A citrus juice aroma with some hops in their too. Not a frosty cold one, but keeping its cool just the same. A nice citrus and stone fruit fizz with some mild hop bitters. A nice full mouthfeel too. A subtle grapefruit bitter finish, not that bitter in contrast to the high IBU. The whole thing consistent throughout and well balanced. Is it bordering on delicious? Nope, it crossed that border.  Very tasty.

Perhaps I can cross back into the most nicest nation in the world with some craft brew contraband? A cliff hanger review! Stay tuned for the sequel, “Brew Mule”.

*Editor’s Comment: According to 42 North their flagship brew Borderland pays tribute to the great towns, states and Countries that are separated by the 42nd parallel. Assuming that's 42 North that would include Canada and the USA and at least 18 other countries around the world including Spain, France, Italy, Russia, China and Japan to name a few. I doubt they will be drinking Borderland in North Korea.

Reviewer's Comment: Your pendantic antics know no borders.
