Once a year I used to head down to the local curling rink for an afternoon of brews and brooms. It was the annual company curling bonspiel*, an event where the amateur on ice alcohol induced ass over tea kettle acrobatics were more entertaining than the game. Some words of advice; soused and concussed is no way to impress the boss or the spouse, or the boss’s spouse. And a soused spouse telling the boss how to run the show isn’t the key to career advancement either.
Curling has it’s own lingo. A slider isn’t a small tasty burger. A biter isn’t the squirrel sized canine at the door waiting to go for a walk. A hack isn’t a National Enquirer journalist. Hurry hard is not a Viagra mantra. And getting to the end doesn’t mean you are finished. Let’s just hope that “on the button” means that this brew hits the spot.
This amber lager from Gateway City makes for a beauty pour, pretty much pour-fect. A reddish amber, clear and concise, with a nice tan tam atop. The aroma is malt and grainy, not as amberesque an aroma as I would expect. Did I mention that I love me an amber? First swig is a nice malt flavour, smooth. The grain on the nose did not end up on the tongue. A smooth finish very tasty. A watery lager mouthfeel and a lager finish. Not as amber as I am used to but a nice flavoured lager, a very easy drinking amber. The light amber flavour and clean finish result in a refreshing and enjoyable amber.
