Things vanilla is great in. Cake, sugar cream pie, tea, ice cream, donuts, air fresheners and yoghurt. Things vanilla is not great in. My beer.

Granville Island is a great place to visit in Vancouver. Take a water taxi across False Creek and visit the shops. The public market is an impressive experience on its own. Have a meal at one of the many fine restaurants. Make sure you visit Canada’s first microbrewery, Granville Island Brewing Co. They have a number of beers to choose from. Just don’t order a Lions Winter Ale.

“Bursting with complex notes of vanilla and white chocolate…”. If I wanted vanilla and white chocolate I would have picked up a donut at Timmies. Buyer beware, I should have read the label. But I saw Granville Island Brewing Co. and I had fond memories of past visits, a sunny day (yes that does happen occasionally in Vancouver) by the water sipping on a frosty draft. Any draft, except Lions Winter Ale. Didn’t like the first quaff and things didn’t improve. Just not my thing. Winter Ale. Just what would Vancouver know about winter anyway? I would have rated this lower except I know Granville Island Brewing has some great beers, just not this one.
