Lunch at Clear Lake Brewery with the COM in training, that would be my son. Nice setup at Clear Lake for lunch, picnic tables and good food with a frosty brew. A pet friendly spot outdoors so a number of man’s best friends were in attendance although I must admit they were much more well behaved then our own huckleberry hound* which we left back at the homestead. The outdoor spot was about half full when we got there but filled up by the time we were done.

After our lunch we toured the largest beer spa in the world right next to the brewery and I must say we were impressed. It was very busy with a full parking lot and people still arriving, I believe the cabins were sold out but day passes were available. Saunas, hot tubs, pools, a dump bucket and bars and food. All in a rustic setting and of course beers on tap as required. I wish Clear Lake all the best in their endeavour

I have had Clear Lake’s Session Ale before so I wanted to try something different. There was a nice selection of brews, from which to choose, but the amber ale, it did prevail. Now that I have my Rhymin’ Simon** routine out of the way I can get down to beer reviewin’ business. The Amber Ale on draft poured a reddish amber with a thin white head. A not too aggressive but nice full malt aroma which you would expect from an amber. Nice malt flavour with a bit of crisp and a touch of sweet caramel in the finish. A nice easy drinking amber served frosty cold worked for me on such a warm day.

*Editor’s Comment: "The Huckleberry Hound Show" was a Hanna Barbera animated series that ran from 1958 until 1961. It was the first animated TV show to win an Emmy. The show introduced us to Yogi Bear which due to his popularity resulted in a spin off, "The Yogi Bear Show" premiered in 1960.

**Editor’s Comment: “There Goes Rhymin' Simon”, released in 1973, was the third solo studio album by Paul Simon. It included the hit “Kodachrome”.
