Dog Eared

Our Pet Pilsner

Publican House Brewery

4.5% Alcohol

When we have our son’s dog and our daughter’s dog over, they team up with our buffalo breathed butt sniffing leg humper for a toothsome threesome. And every time someone walks past our house the canine choir kicks in, and our house sounds like the pound from hell. It’s a three-dog night that’s leaving me dog eared, and I’m not singing joy to the world, that’s for sure.  But on a positive note, a pint of this Publican’s Pilsner provides funds for the local humane society* and maybe takes a bit of the edge off those frayed nerves from the barks and bays and howls and growls that the unreleased hounds emanate seemingly every minute of every waking hour of every day while our house is going to the dogs.

So how does this Publican Pet Pilsner pour? Alliteratively it seems. Dark golden and clear, minimal head, my pint awaits. Mild malt nose leads into a nice fresh malt flavour with a very dry flat crisp finish. It aims to refresh, and it hits the spot. Almost a touch of some of the end of innocence apple has me feeling more knowledgeable. Nice full bodied flavour with a dry crisp finish. Classic Pilsner.**

Publican House tells us to “pair this beer with belly rubs and ear scratches”. When I approached the missus with this suggestion, she had a suggestion of her own. “Rub your own belly and then stick it in your ear” I don’t think that was exactly what the good folks at Publican House had in mind.

*Editor’s Comment: Proceeds from this brew go to support the Peterborough Humane Society.

**Editor’s Comment: Congratulations Publican House. This beer was a 2023 Ontario Brewing Awards gold medal winner.
