At the cottage, hoisting one, and the missus says she didn’t realize R&R meant “reviews and rants”, I guess what we have here is a failure to communicate*. Not the first and won’t be the last. Interestingly enough, they are all my fault. This one is too late to rectify, and since last night’s brew is today’s review, it is brew review time again. This communication breakdown* somehow foreshadowed this brew sampling. Explanation to follow.
Lake of the Woods out of Winnipeg tells us that Channel Marker is a Citra Dry Hopped Light Lager and is “a wayfinder to Tasty Town located on Beer Island.” I wasn’t about to hop in the fishing boat based on those directions.
A clear lite-brite pour, bubbly and heady. This is not going to be a typical lager. A light tropical fruit aroma, is this really a lager? First swig had the light fruit and malt battling for position, with the malt coming in a distant second, and with a slight crisp finish. Bitter? Maybe just. It is light but some flavour showed up after all. A consistent brew from start to finish, light fruit with a touch of malt, bit of fizz and a slightly crisp finish. A fruity lager, a wannabe ale?
I think what we have here is a failure to communicate, because this sure doesn’t taste like any kind of lager, light, bright, or otherwise. Not a light lager, maybe light on lager is more like it. I guess these days anything goes. An OK brew, a nice light ale perhaps?
